Flint Institute of Arts (FIA) has been collaborating with the Michigan School for the Deaf (MSD) to explore new and innovative ways to increase accessibility at the FIA and bridge MSD students’ involvement in the arts. We’re excited to share that FIA has made accessibility strides which is now available—stop by and experience select artworks presented in ASL!
There are currently 4 pieces of artwork in the lobby that can be accessed via a QR code. The videos provide information about the following pieces:
"International Detroit Playa: Sheefy, 2022" by Mario Moore
"Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water, 2006" by Hubert Massey
"Guernica, 2003" by Sophie Matisse"
"Red Fish Tail, 1965" by Alexander Calder
More galleries will be added in the coming months.
Additionally, all public lectures have ASL interpretation. The next lecture is on Wednesday, June 24 at 6 pm in the FIA theatre. The topic is is "Fabulous Florence: Grand Duchesses & Women Artists at the Medici Court". The lecture is free, and pre-registration is requested.
