Boys Varsity Track and Field – Taraji Smoots

Congratulations to Taraji Smoots, the May Student-Athlete of the Month for Boys Varsity Track and Field! Taraji’s exceptional work ethic during practice truly paid off this month as he consistently dropped his times and pushed his limits across multiple events. His dedication culminated in a spectacular performance at the MHSAA Region 39-4 Track and Field Meet on May 15th, where he earned a spot in the finals and finishing 8th overall in the Long Jump, securing a point for the boys’ team score. Whether sprinting the 100m, 200m, and 400m or soaring through the air in the Long Jump, Taraji embodies the grit, improvement, and team-first attitude of a model student-athlete.

Girls Varsity Track and Field – Selma Allen

Congratulations to Selma Allen, the May Student-Athlete of the Month for Girls Varsity Track and Field! Selma’s incredible hard work and soaring self-confidence have allowed her to finish the season on an absolute high note. Stepping completely out of her comfort zone, she tackled the grueling 1600m for the very first time on May 6th and proceeded to shave time off her performance in every subsequent meet. Her dedication truly shone at the MHSAA Region 39-4 Track and Field Meet on May 15th, where she capped off her season by shattering her previous times and setting a spectacular new personal record of 7:21.44. Selma’s determination to push her boundaries and consistently improve embodies the true spirit of a dedicated student-athlete

Singing Hands – Brent Oakley

Congratulations to Brent Oakley, the May Student-Athlete of the Month for Singing Hands! Brent’s incredible dedication and vibrant MSD spirit have made a massive impact on the team this season. Throughout the month, he brought energy to every practice, remaining eager and constantly willing to master both his lines and choreography. Even after facing the heartbreak of a broken leg, Brent’s commitment to his team never wavered. Though he was deeply disappointed to miss the Thursday performance, he still showed up to cheer on, encourage, and support his castmates from the sidelines.

Singing Hands – Zarah Annen

Congratulations to Zarah Annen, the May Student-Athlete of the Month for Singing Hands! Zarah’s outstanding work ethic have shone brightly all month long. From day one, she has been willing to learn, putting in maximum effort with her lines. Her consistency was unmatched, attending almost every single practice. She brings positive attitude that uplifted everyone around her. Zarah’s profound commitment to excellence and passion for her team make her a highly valued performer.

Singing Hands – Da’Marion Hall

Congratulations to Da’Marion Hall, the May Student-Athlete of the Month for Singing Hands! Da’Marion’s selflessness and ultimate team-first attitude were on full display this month when the production needed him most. Demonstrating incredible versatility and school spirit, he willingly stepped up from his role on the CREW to take the stage as a performer, all while continuing to help manage the overall production. His adaptability, hard work, and readiness to serve the team in any capacity ensured the show’s success.
