Extended School Year (ESY) Guidance

This information is being provided to parents in order to better understand the process for determining Extended School Year (ESY) services. ESY is based on first identifying an existing annual IEP goal area of concern which represents a skill essential to the student and then determining the need for ESY services. The purpose of ESY services is to maintain skills rather than to teach new ones. ESY must be considered for every student with a disability at each of their IEP team meetings.

The following is a link to a document provided by the Michigan Department of Education Office of Special Education to better understand the legal requirements for ESY services, how they are determined and provided.
