Job Posting - Michigan School for the Deaf Activities Department (Coaches)

These positions are not State of Michigan jobs; the positions are Michigan School for the Deaf contracted employee. 

The Activities Department of Michigan School for the Deaf is accepting applications for the positions listed for 2019-2020 School Year:

  • Football Head Coach {1 position}

  • Boys Basketball Assistant Coach {1 position}

  • Middle & Elementary Assistant Coach {1 position}

  • Cheerleading & Spirit Squad Assistant Coach {1 position}

  • Singing Hands Co-Directors {2 positions} 

Positions will be filled pending student interest. These are one-year contracted positions and pay will be determined based upon experience. 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  1. Strong ASL/English communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.

  2. Ability to write reports and correspondence consistent with the duties of this

    position.

  3. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a

    variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of

    information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.

  4. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.

  5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or

    complaints. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Communicates fluently in American Sign Language and knowledge of Deaf culture. Demonstrate knowledge and competence in the subject area. Must be able to explain concepts to students effectively. Enjoy academic assistance in the subject for which services are being provided. Good interpersonal skills and ease in relating to students from varying educational, cultural and diverse backgrounds. Excellent level of responsibility, reliability and punctuality. Process good organizational skills, complete paperwork and data in a timely manner. Exhibit patience and positive attitudes in establishing and encouraging learning environment. 

State of Michigan Employees: 

Coaching duties should not conflict with work schedule, if so, annual leave must be requested. If absence from practice, you will not be paid for that day. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Educational environment with extensive interaction with students. May be exposed to infectious diseases. 

CERTIFICATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Drug Testing

  • Fingerprint/Criminal Background 

Additional Requirements and Information:

The Michigan Department of Education/Michigan School for the Deaf will not hire and employ individuals who have been convicted of a “listed offense” pursuant to the School Safety Legislation Acts (Public Acts 129, 130, 131 and 138 of 2005). The “listed offense” are defined in the Sex Offenders Registration Act (Section 2 of Public Act 295 of 1994). Fingerprint records are required prior to being hired.
